The HJS is a leading British foreign policy think-tank supporting transatlantic relations; a robust international security policy; and the fight for democracy, liberty and human rights worldwide as a central focus for British, US and European foreign policy. Interns will experience full immersion in the British IR world and have the opportunity to make international contacts; attend talks by visiting scholars, political leaders, and policy-makers in Parliament; and be part of an organization pioneering new techniques in the British think-tank environment.

Internship Description for 2012
Interns will be involved in every aspect of our international programme – covering research, events, media and parliamentary liaison, publications, and administration – and will be given responsibility for specific projects as well as being expected to provide general assistance. You will also have the opportunity to become involved with the agenda and programming for the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Transatlantic & International Security, and Homeland Security, the European Convention on Liberal Democracy and the Campaign for the Responsibility to Protect.

Desired Qualifications
Ideal interns will be motivated self-starters who are capable of acting independently and who possess the capacity to absorb and execute instructions quickly in a busy environment. Experience of International Relations is an advantage but more important is a clear writing style, and a willingness to engage in run-of-the-mill tasks and to act as team players. In their applications, potential interns should demonstrate a good fit with the foreign policy principles of the HJS.
