ABC News is responsible for all of the ABC Television Network’s news programming on a variety of platforms: television, radio and the Internet. With an average television and radio audience of 180 million people in a given month, ABC News far surpasses the competition. More than 2,300 affiliate stations broadcast ABC News Radio’s global news coverage. In addition, ABC News Now is a 24-hour news and information network currently available to more than 30 million users across cable, broadband, and mobile platforms. NewsOne, the affiliate news service of ABC News, provides live and packaged news, sports, and weather reports to 200 ABC affiliates, as well as more than 30 domestic and international clients.
Internship Description:
The intern must have an interest in covering the impact of the Beijing Olympic Games and the global economic crisis on China as she will be given serious and important tasks at ABC News including: researching story ideas, contacting possible interview subjects, writing articles for the ABC News website, transcribing interviews, and organizing and logging materials for the video tape library. Additionally the intern will have the opportunity to assist a producer and camera crew during filming assignments.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the worlds largest and most respected independent organizations dedicated to the conservation of nature. WWF has been active in China on nature conservation since 1980, when it was invited by Chinese government as the first international NGO to the work on panda conservation. In 1996, WWF opened its Beijing office and has since established a presence in eight additional cities in China. Today, WWF-China has 80 staff working on conservation programmes, including species, forests, freshwater, marine, climate change and energy, education for sustainable development, and scientific development and international policy.
Internship Description:
The intern at WWF will have the opportunity to focus on one or more of the following areas:
Communications: The intern will work with programme staff to develop and implement communication strategies for specific programmes, such as the Species Programmes. The intern will also develop a wide base of knowledge of the organization by providing support in compiling newsletters and reports for targeted stakeholders.
External Relations: WWF China is expanding its cooperation with various and unconventional partners, including NGOs, foundations, banks, and international development agencies. The intern will develop and analyze a roadmap of these organizations, along with a report suggesting areas for possible cooperation. Working closely with programme staff the intern will identify the main organizations, establish connections, and develop dialogues. The intern will help strengthen relations with the partners, with a specific focus on the interaction between partners on international and domestic debates, particularly in the field of climate change.
Service Delivery: WWF China Programme is developing a proposal database and a project database. The intern will help improve both databases so that they can better serve the conservation programmes and the fundraising efforts of WWF China. The intern will organize and coordinate a study tour in the field of freshwater conservation.

Time Out previews, reviews and critiques the arts from fine art, books, film, music, classical and opera and performance to reviewing and discussing food and drink, nightlife, fashion and sports. The magazine is a comprehensive guide to what is happening in a city.
Time Out’s purpose is to dig below the surface of a city and discover the people that live in, and inform readers about things that occur in the city and the hot topics of the month.
Time Out Beijing has been published for three years and is now a leader in the market. It is published in both English and Chinese in Beijing and Chinese in Shanghai. Time Out organizes some of the largest cultural events in the city, from music festivals to art fairs and is an active part of the contemporary cultural community.
Internship Description:
The internship is a researcher and reporter position working within the publishing industry at Time Out. During the course of the internship the intern will develop a broad understanding of publishing will be given from editorial, sales, marketing, distribution and circulation perspectives. The focus of the internship will be editorial, the intern will help senior editors with research, interviews, fact checking and writing news and featured articles. The intern can focus on one specific section of the magazine such as music or food, fashion or news depending on their interest but will also work across the title on several sections.
The intern will be given a mentor from the senior editorial staff who will be able to assist and guide them. The intern will be expected to attend weekly editorial meetings, be in the office from 10am-6pm Monday-Friday, unless they are at an interview press conference or with their mentor on a story. The program should give the intern a clearer understanding of publishing and journalism. It should give the intern a clear idea of what a news story or feature story is and how to construct it. Although the intern may attend with their mentor some fashion parties or interviews with film stars, it will also show that entertainment journalism also involves long hours and tight deadlines. The intern will aim to get at least one article published with their name in print in the magazine.

The HSPH China Initiative is dedicated to contributing expertise in education, research, and policy analysis to help advance health and social development in China during a time of profound social and economic transformation. Through education, the Initiative will train a new generation of innovative public health leaders. Through research, the Initiative seeks to foster new discoveries leading to improved health for the Chinese people and people of all nations. Through policy dialogue programs, the initiative aims to inform policy debate, disseminate health information, and increase awareness of public health as a public good and fundamental human right.
Internship Description:
The 2008 Summer Internship with the China Initiative will take place in Boston and Beijing. First, the intern will assist in the 2008 China Senior Executive Education Program in Boston (June 9 – 27). Sixty to seventy national and regional health sector leaders from China will spend three weeks in Boston attending lectures by Harvard faculty and distinguished public and private sector leaders and site visits. The intern will provide support to program staff and have the opportunity to interact with prominent leaders in the field of public health from both the United States and China.
The intern will spend the remainder of the summer in Beijing at the China Initiative’s China-based office, the Health and Development Institute (HADI) at the Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management. There, the intern will participate in an on-going research and advocacy project called Health for All by All (FABA). FABA aims to build an alliance between governments, business, industry, and civil society to organize a series of important communications, research, and advocacy activities to realize three imperatives: first, establishing a healthcare system that covers all people; second, developing a health and wellness sector; and three, promoting a healthy lifestyle for all people. The China Initiative intern will participate in the advancement of FABA by performing literature reviews, participating in field studies, interacting with different stakeholders, and possibly contributing to research and policy report generation.
