ProParques
Wellesley In Costa Rica Program

ProParques was started in 2006 by a group of professionals (academics, Environmentalists and businessmen) who share a common concern about the present condition and future sustainability of Costa Rica’s National Parks.

ProParques is a nonprofit organization whose only clients are the national parks of Costa Rica. The organization strives to identify practical and immediate solutions to problems that deal primarily with funding and personnel issues within these protected areas.

Internship Possibilities:

Work with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy (MINAE), Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC), and the local community of Tortuguero, and ProParques to implement a program that protects sea turtles during their nesting period from the impact created by tourism. This program will be funded by various types of voluntary contributions by visitors and will hire and train paraprofessionals from the community in a beach monitoring program. The intern will be working to promote the campaign to all visitors of Tortuguero and will also promote the program within the local community and specially to tourist guides that for some reason did not support the program during the first year it was implemented.
